WORSHIP CHOIR GUIDELINES

REHEARSALS: Worship Choir members are to attend and stay for the full duration of scheduled and unscheduled rehearsals.   Rehearsals are held every Thursday from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Sanctuary.  Extra rehearsals may be required and the scheduling at the discretion of the Worship Choir leader.

WORSHIP SERVICES: Occasions to be involved in leading worship arise throughout the year. Members of the Worship Choir are to sing at all four services when called upon to do so.   The opportunity to sing at both Wednesday night services may occur, and members are to sing at those services  when the occasion arises.  Sectional attendance sheets need to be signed before each worship service.

ARRIVAL TIMES: Everyone needs to be punctual and prepared.  Please be ready with music in hand at 7 p.m. every Thursday night in the Sanctuary.  Times will be announced for special rehearsals and events.

ABSENCES: What is an excused absence?  Excused absences include illness, planned vacations, business trips, and family emergencies.

What is an UN-excused absence?  Un-excused absences are such things as tiredness, not being a morning person, needing a break, busy witnessing, not having a ride, a rough day at work, football games, hockey games, etc.  Members are to call their section leaders when unable to attend rehearsals or performances.  Calling the day of the rehearsal or performance is not appropriate.  If you are unable to reach your section leader contact the alternate section leader. If you are unable to contact the alternate, then call the Music Ministry.  Two unexcused absences in a row brings your participation in the Worship Choir perilously close to an end.  Excessive excused or unexcused absences will cause your further involvement in the Worship Choir to be reevaluated by the Worship Choir leader whose decision is final.

SECTION LEADERS: Section leaders are available to answer questions regarding Worship Choir and Church responsibilities, scheduling, dates, times, etc.  Your section leader is there to support you with prayer and to assist you with any concerns or problems that may arise in the group.  Call your section leader when you are going to be absent.

MUSIC: Please bring your music to rehearsals.  New and updated music will be passed out weekly.

DRINKS: Beverages are allowed during rehearsals in capped sealed containers.

NEW MEMBERS: New members are to attend three rehearsals before singing at church services and participate in six weeks of rehearsals prior to singing at special events.  New members singing involvement at the services or special events is at the discretion of the section leaders and the Worship Choir leader.

AGE: Members must be of high school age or older.  No members are allowed over the age of 127 yrs. old.(Our insurance doesn’t cover it)

GUIDELINES: The Worship Choir requires a time commitment that is a spiritual and musical challenge and certain behaviors can distract from this commitment.

What are unacceptable behaviors?  No talking is allowed when the leader is talking, when another section is learning their part, or when the group is singing.  Coarse jesting and horse jousting are unacceptable.  There is a time for fun and fellowship, but not for distraction and attention seeking.

DRESS CODE: Dress for performances should be: modest, yet elegant; conservative, yet stylish; functional, but not boring.  Guys:  No tank tops, no T-shirts, no open toed sandals, no hole-y jeans. (holy jeans are OK)

Girls:  No mini skirts, no T-shirts, no birkenstocks (not even at rehearsals, too funny looking), only modest amounts of uncovered flesh.  No dangling earrings or light reflecting jewelry. No rhinestones or sequins. Excessive body piercing is discouraged.

SPECIAL EVENTS: Throughout the year the Worship Choir will be called upon to lead worship at special events such as Christmas, Easter, and recording sessions.  All the guidelines for attendance and punctuality apply for these times as well.
